**Professionals** A Potential Database For MP Users??

I was wondering...?
If MP had a state by state listing of business professionals willing to offer their services to Our Community, would this be welcomed?
This list could include any profession from Accountants to Painters to Veterinarians.
Existing somewhere on the bottom of the 'General' page?

For example: ( Please, pardon the gratuitous self promotion )
I am the owner of a small business specializing in Commercial / Residential Heating & Air Conditioning Service and Replacement.
I also work on water heaters and boilers.
I am licensed locally and carry a $1mil incidental/ $2mil aggregate insurance policy

I would gladly offer a "Dirtbaggers Discount" on services for MP users.

EDIT
I myself use the services of a local Vet/climber that "Operates" out of his mobile Hospital. He performs FLAWLESS neuters (that do not require your pet to wear a cone) in your front yard.

Any other like-minded pro's out there?

What do you think Mtn. Peeps???

But do you really want the sort of people who read MountainProject as your customers?

Ha ha!

Yes , Martin!
Your money spends the same as anyone elses lol.

It's a climbing website.

great idea.

I think it's a good idea... But for climbing related businesses. Guides, resolers, wholesalers...

Great feedback so far!
I was thinking along the lines that; I needed to have work done that I couldn't do myself. I'm going to shell out some Benjamins to get it done anyway, so I'd rather pay a fellow climber?
Yes, including industry pro's like guides would be fantastic!

Maybe MP could provide some sort of benefit to guides, such as free advertising in appropriate areas on the website, and the guides could in turn provide a discount for MP users.

In the increasingly digital age, a tech-savvy guide might find that this advertising could bring them a lot of new business, and it keeps MP'rs happy.

I'm pretty sure they don't want to go down that path, as complications can arise with shysters and deadbeats interacting.

That's true...what was I thinking. With the Ellenors and Killises of the world, this might not be the best place to promote a legitimate business.

We don't need more visual spam. Maybe climbing related business only but not "Commercial / Residential Heating & Air Conditioning Service and Replacement." What percentage of MP is going to care about that discount in Colorado Springs?

M Mobley · · Bar Harbor, ME · Joined Mar 2006 · Points: 911

I'm a believer in word of mouth or in this case "type". Next time I wear through my rands I might send em off to Locker, if I need advice on my boiler I'll be PMing Tom-O, if I need a nurse I hope its not Elanor and if I need some porn I'll message Killis. If I need to ask what people think about Link cams I'll start a new thread.

Good point Brian, which is why I suggested a state by state listing.
Somewhere down at the bottom of the forum page so as not to be intrusive.
If my vehicle breaks down in BFE, it would be nice to look up the local climber/mechanic to try first for repairs.
Assuming they aren't out crankin at the local crag!

So far no like-minded pro's?

Please keep the debate rolling...

Sorry Tom but I would rather have Mountain Project stay as a climbing website. Though I'm there is a place for such a great idea!

Climbers are dirtbags. Climbers love deals. If you need a new HVAC system, deck built, professional guide, accountant, veterinarian, etc. wouldn't you rather get a discount (assuming the climber discount) and be working with a climber? I would. I support this.

Ryan & Josh, I'm not suggesting the site change in ANY manner, apart from a "heading" one could click on to see what services climbers can offer to other climbers.

Mike, I totally see your point here, but don't we already face these challenges in the 'for sale' department?

Fall Guy, Thank you for the kind remark and if I can't answer your question I'll ask the right person and try to get you an answer!

Ben, I think simplicity is the key here. Wouldn't more ads be a nuisance to MP users?
I'm not suggesting everyone offer a "Dirtbag Discount" either. Most people are in this for the money and I get that.

NC,OC, and Birdman thanks for selecting the 'Like' button!

I said I own a small business. I should clarify that I have to work 7 to 3:30 for someone else to keep food on the table, and work afternoons and weekends to support my climbing habit.
Which means I don't get out much :(

Oh dear god. Can you imagine getting a dose of anesthesia and as you're going under you mention you're a climber and the nurse says, "Oh me too. My name is Ellanor. I'll be assisting on your surgery."

Sure you are, gonna make another go at it eh? Best of luck. This should be entertaining.

This is a "yes" vote.
I would use it today if it existed. Great idea Tom-O!

Josh Kornish · · Whitefish, MT · Joined Sep 2009 · Points: 800

I don't mean to personally put you or your idea down at all Tom.

I've thought more about where it could fit into the site and in the "Deals" tab it would be great!

M Mobley · · Bar Harbor, ME · Joined Mar 2006 · Points: 911

obviously less than 20% of mtn projectors own anything besides a subaru wagon their parent paid for, bad idea Tom-o

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
