I am going to be finishing up school at Prescott College and will be moving to that general area with the new wife (getting married in June) in July. I was looking for some inside scoop on sweet, specific (cheap) areas to live.
Also, just some local insight on fun rest day stuff to do and just the area in general.
And finally I just wanted to throw my name (Keith) out there, say hello, and let you know I am looking forward to being not only a productive part of the climbing community, but also the community in general.
Cheers!

Hey Keith,
I'll chime in here for the Preskitt locals since no one else probably will. I believe there are about 5-6 people that I know of, including myself, that live in Prescott and actually participate on MP. To give you an estimate for the size of the community that's a solid 10%.
Anyways, not to rant, but just give you a feel for the climbing community, you'll find that there are a lot of random groups that climb around Prescott. Those basically include Prescott College, ERAU, and the awesome old crushers. Going to PC it'll be very easy to connect with those students that are in the Adv. Ed. program and get out climbing all the time.
In terms of living in Prescott, it's a very low-key place that may take some getting used to if you're coming from the city. In the last 6 years I've been here though it has just kept growing and inevitably the pace of life has increased. There's climbing everywhere you look, but not much of it is published anywhere...yet. An updated guidebook should hopefully be in the pipe and coming out within the next few years by local route/area creator Kevin Keith. He's put a ton of work into all the potential areas around Prescott within the last several years. It's good to know of these areas, which all PC Adv. Ed. students will know, in order to avoid a standstill of climbing outside when Granite Mountain and Thumb Butte close down annually.
In terms of a cheap place to stay, I can't help you out that much because I'm not to familiar with the rates of apartments or houses. However, I can say I've heard to avoid PC on campus housing because it is very expensive. It may be a good option to look for a 3rd roommate and acquire a house. There are a ton of options around the downtown area that can be within biking distance of PC.
Hope this helps! If you have any questions on specifics or anything else feel free to PM me.
I am excited to make the move and hopefully have some sort of positive impact on the climbing scene. I won't hesitate to contact you guys if I have any questions!
