So I'm flying into potrero in a few weeks (actually a full month, but with so much awful NYC weather I'm tricking myself into thinking it's sooner) and have a few questions: -favorite 5.11 pitch at potrero? -what food should we bring from the states that we won't be able to get in mexico (read peanut butter somewhere) -Probably climbing in a group of 3 at least a day or two, what are some ideal shorter routes at potrero for groups of 3. -insert another stupid ignorant american questions -does everyone really leave their packs at the top of the first pitches instead of on the ground?

Two Pumped Chump--2 pitches of 5.11a The second pitch of Stroking the Bishop 5.11c.

Bring your own power bars. You can get peanut butter here.

There are several ways you can climb 3 people as fast and efficiently as two.

No. Only if you are doing a long route that starts right off the road.

Ed nailed it, but if you run out I would add Don Quixote, XL Puffsneaker, Twist of fate, and Eternal Fatalist to the list of 11s.

with wings....

I used kayak trip alerts last year and couldn't find a price that worked, but this year I used flights.google.com and found a flight for a lot less.
other flight tips:

-fly on a wednesday
-buy tickets on a tuesday
-buy about 7 weeks in advance.

All three of those things will save you a good bit of money.

Vivaaerobus has cheap flights from San Antonio and Austin.

Some folks fly to San Antonio or Laredo and come in by bus.

While we prepare for more snow in New York, the anticipation for a relief from this garbage winter is pretty high. How has the weather been down south?

I am looking to trip somewhere through June, any one have weather experience down there during this month? The heat doesn't bother me too much since I am an NC boy and work construction but just curious how intense it may be.

Contrary to popular belief, summer temps in the Potrero are not extreme. It's dry and usually in the low 90's and the way the walls are oriented there is always shade.

If you come in the summer, however, you'd better bring a partner 'cuz there will be no one around to climb with.

I like the sound of that. They told me that when I worked a summer in central washington. I would be hot they said. I was cold on a shady day with wind. I got to have that humidity if its going to get me overheated.

Would there be better luck finding partners in May?

Possibly. The season pretty much ends here after Easter but there's usually a few folks who hang around a bit longer. I'll be here myself through most of May.

Do y'all know what the policy on bringing your own dogs is for La Posada? I have all the papers for my dog and everything, just was hoping to keep him in our room for big wall days. (Friends will be letting him out periodically!)

Dogs are welcome at La Posada. Be sure to bring your proof of rabies inoculation 'cuz they might ask to see it when returning back across the border.
