Cool pics, Danny. My dog looks a lot like your chico. My dog is Lola's brother. We adopted him in October of 2008 and he was probably born in Jan or Feb of 2008.

Hi Austin Climbers,

Is anybody planning on driving to Potrero Chico or looking for a partner in mid January? I am an experienced, safe climber new to Texas hoping to take advantage of some of the best sport climbing in the world. I climbed potrero last march and am psyched to get back.

Let me know if you are planning or want to go!

Welcome to Mexico guys. If you are ever found without a partner just post on facebook's climbing groups populated by great people and great climbers. A lot of us speak English and we are more than willing to practice it while doing a few good routes.

Hello!

I'm going to be solo and looking for partners in EPC from Jan. 6-14. I'm a safe (I was even a guide for a bit), experienced climber who's looking to get on long moderates mostly. Shoot me an email (qrohlf@gmail.com) if you need a partner!

I'll be down there, likely staying at la posada, Jan 24th-Feb 6th. Similar pursuits as others in these threads, looking to do the moderate classic multi pitch lines, as well as taking advantage of the harder classic single pitches I didn't last year.

Message me if you will be down there during that time period. Hope everyone has great trips!!!

Left Monterrey via bus around 5:30pm Saturday and our bus has been stuck at the border at Laredo in traffic since 8:30pm Saturday (time now is 10:30am Sunday). If you are planning on driving back I would recommend crossing elsewhere. It looks like it will take well over 24 hours to get back to San Antonio.

Cars do cross faster than buses once you reach the main bridge but up until that point you are creeping along for about 12 hours until the buses and cars separate into separate lines.

If you come to Potrero and want to climb some steep tufas this new area on the way to El Salto has twenty new routes climbing golden tufas and stalactites out roofs:

Cueva de la Cumbia

Mark,

Looks awesome! Are you traveling between the two places or staying near Cueva?

Thanks for the info!

I'm driving to Potrero from Vegas as soon as I can find either a passenger or another car to convoy across the border with. I can pick you up or meet anywhere along the way!

What's it like in early April for climbing at El Potrero? We're thinking of heading down there over spring break. It seems like most people are there over the winter.

Lisa M- I'm already set up for a ride. Thanks so much for the offer and I'm sure I'll see you down there!

Daricouv- I know it gets pretty hot down there late February/early March, but I know people that will still climb through April. Good Luck.

Safe travels everyone.

I'm booking a trip to potrero for the end of march. very excited. I've been putting off this trip for what seems like forever. Every year there was another reason not to go (partners back out, money, nrg/rrg trip, murders) but it seems like the stars might be aligning finally!

Hi again all, I finally have my mind made up and dates set. Iím driving from CO and should arrive in EPC on Feb 7th and will be looking for people to climb with. Looks like several MPers are already down there, hopefully everyone is having a great time!

coryhall, like you, when Iím done in EPC (donít know when that will be) Iím continuing my drive south with the eventual goal of making it to Patagonia. If weíre both heading south looking for things to climb and people to climb with I have a feeling we might make good friends! PM me if youíre looking for partners as you go.

Went down over Christmas and was there during "the incident". Happened right behind the house I was staying at. Not to say that there is no danger, but it feels nothing but safe in town and in the Potrero. I had a blast! Here is the dog I got in the Potrero in January!

I assume you are talking about last year? Or did something else happen this year?

Regarding temps in March- I have been there twice in March and found it quite pleasant. Climbing in t shirt and shorts. You may occasionally need to seek out shade but no biggy.

I went for the whole month of January then returned back this Christmas for 2 weeks so basically went to Potrero twice this year.

So I'm flying into potrero in a few weeks (actually a full month, but with so much awful NYC weather I'm tricking myself into thinking it's sooner) and have a few questions:

-favorite 5.11 pitch at potrero?
-what food should we bring from the states that we won't be able to get in mexico (read peanut butter somewhere)
-Probably climbing in a group of 3 at least a day or two, what are some ideal shorter routes at potrero for groups of 3.
-insert another stupid ignorant american questions
-does everyone really leave their packs at the top of the first pitches instead of on the ground?

It is rarely, even in the middle of Summer, too hot to climb in the Potrero. Temps here do not get extreme and the way our walls are oriented there is always something good to climb in the shade.
