portaledge advice

So it's time for bigger and better things, and that means picking up a double ledge. I've done my research and talked to folks I know, and now I'd love some advice from random strangers on the internet. Makes sense, eh?

My two main choices are the BD cliff cabana and Metolius bomb shelter. I know the differences in size/weight/price but I'm interested to hear about EASE OF SETUP, DURABILITY, QUALITY OF FLY, or any other thoughts/advice you may have.

I know that the Fish ledges are great, but unless Russ wants to give me a prodeal that's not gonna happen.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I don't see the big difference in the price of the BD or Metolius compared to Fish.

On the Fish website you can get a double whammy for $899 including rainfly/haulbag

On some random gear websites I see BD cliff cabanas for around $700 and the cheapest rainfly is $249

Am I missing something obvious? Or are you just able to get a discount on the BD/Metolius stuff?

Just curious because I've been planning to buy a portaledge for a while myself

I've recently spent my first night on my new BD cliff cabana and have to say I'm really stoked with it. I've practiced setting it up a ton so that I can get it up in around 7 minutes though once on the wall the spreader bar gave me a little grief... Still had it up pretty quickly though.

I'm 6'2, 220 and sleep very comfortably. I also really like all the little pockets on the fins as they allow lots of important little things to be stored within easy reach. As far as weight, I don't feel it's anything out of the ordinary.

There are always used ones to buy. Most people do a wall or two then store their portaledge in a closet.
