Description Suggest change

Pooh Corner has south-facing crags with moderate and short routes.

Getting There Suggest change

Approach Independence Pass on the Aspen side. Park on the north side of the CO Highway 82 50 yards downhill from mile marker 53. The crags are a 10 minutes up a trail that starts just east of the pullout.

Update to parking: The traditional parking for Pooh Corner/Baby Face appears to have been cleared enough of avalanche debris that you could park there now. Just be prepared for other parking options as the spot looks a bit smaller (it never was a huge spot) than before.

Perhaps leave alternative parking options here to let people know about other parking options:

Per Michael Schneiter: the parking area and the start of the trail for this area were destroyed by an avalanche this spring. It's impossible to get off the road and park here. The best option may be to park on the far right of the Upper Boulderfield, such as for Lower Bulldog and walk back on the road or try to contour (bushwhack) to the area and find the proper trail. It appeared that the avalanche went upslope but stopped short of Mollie's Buttress.

In spring 2019 the parking for the Pooh Corner area was covered in an avalanche and it's unlikely to be cleared for some time unless someone gets up there and gets busy with a chainsaw. I am not sure the Forest Service would want that anyway. So, here's approach info for the meantime:

There are basically two possible parking spots. See the beta picture I uploaded.

1. The Reef parking - a small pullout on the south side after passing the Upper Boulderfield. GPS: 39.12537, -106.66556 .

2. Parking by Season of the Witch - a small pullout on south side after passing Season of the Witch, a short bolted climb right off the road. It's just west of Mile Marker 53. GPS: 39.12568, -106.66237.
