Planning Trip Mid-March

Hey guys,

My girlfriend and I are trying to take a climbing trip in the middle of March. Was thinking maybe Red Rocks but I was hoping to get some input from everyone. We'll be climbing mostly moderates and hoping to find some good weather to enjoy it in. Ideally we would find a mix of easy trad and moderate (10s or so) sport climbs. Easy multipitch and fun stuff to do on off days are even bigger bonuses, but not necessary.

Any suggestions on fun locations to check out?

Thanks!
Alex

Where are you coming from? Red Rocks, Smith, and Bishop would all seem to fit your bill. Weather at Smith is a little less predictable but still generally good.

We'll be coming from Bozeman, so we're weighing either driving or flying.

Flights to Vegas on Allegiant from Bozeman are really cheap but they ream you for both carryon and checked bags

Yeah, we went Allegiant last year to check outZion. Packed everything in one big checked bag and it ended up being not too terrible.

Moderate sport and easy multi pitch trad? Red Rock would be perfect.

If you end deciding not to fly, I'm gonna go against the grain and recommend Smith. Not known for trad climbing, but there is some there, and some fun easy multi pitch routes both trad and sport.

The camping is much nicer than Red Rock, you can walk to the crag instead of dealing with the loop road, Bend is a great place to go on a rest day, and you can bring your skis (if you're in Bozone, I'm assuming you ski) and either tour or ski bachelor too.

What's the climbing like in Saint George? Seeing that as a possible option in the area as well.

Don't know much about St. George but Moab is great in March
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
