An overview of the Planet X Area, Joshua Tree NP

Description

This outstanding circuit is comprised of numerous quality problems scattered about the flat desert floor. There's something for everyone here with problems ranging from short to highball and easy to difficult with most on good to excellent rock.

Some of the better problems here include Wormhole (V0+), Boulder Crack (V2), Lucky Star (V2 R), Satellite Boulder Left (V3 R), Planet Y (V3 R), Jerry's Kids (V4), X-Men (V5 R), Turbolator (V5), and Planet X (V6 R).

Getting There

Parking for the Planet X Area is located 1.4 miles south of Hidden Valley Campground and 0.3 miles north of Cap Rock in a paved pullout (room for 3-4 cars) located on the east side of the road.

Hike east following a marked trail past the Love Nest Area and when you reach the western edge of the Planet X Boulders take either the right or left fork in the trail depending upon which boulder(s) you're heading towards.

Start off a large cheatstone (although not necessary), climb jugs up to a blank, vertical headwall with thin crimps, to an all out dyno for a huge jug 20 ft. off the deck. Finishes with a few mildly exciting sloper moves....[more]   Browse More Classics in CA
