A large volcanic outcrop just west of Superior Arizona. While some rock routs and numerous hiking opportunities abound in the area, the key feature is on the north slope. A rotten tower with 2+ routes awaits those who brave the desert heat and cross-country journey to get there.
East on HWY 60 from Phoenix metro area. Access to northern slope areas is via a series of roads west of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Parking to the Arboretum is costly and hiking from the parking lot is not recommended.

Featured Route For Picket Post Mountain
The route begins on the uphill (south) side of the tower. climb up and past 1-2 bolts then traverse to right to very rotten crack. Belay or continue up to summit. Very poor rock and only good to reach a desert summit w/o much pain. Two ropes needed for descent....[more] Browse More Classics in AZ
