Description Suggest change

Apparently, the climbing potential was originally discovered by Glen Burke and the routes established by the Perkin Brothers and Jorge Visser. The rock is limestone with lots of fossils, and the climbing positive. The rock quality is good and there are currently 30 published routes from 5.10 to 5.14.
This is a cool weather crag. The phalanx has climbing on all sides, but despite some shade it's too hot for summer climbing.

The NW and N face holds some long techy slab climbs with awesome chert and coral nodules. The SW and SE face hold harder long climbs with varying rock quality but plenty of fun to be had.

TOP OUT ON THE PILLAR, THE VIEW IS EPIC!

Getting There Suggest change

Either travel here with high clearance or tack on quite a bit to your hike in. Follow the directions to Dutchman's Draw. The Phalanx is just a little further down the same road. To get to the Phalanx, make sure you follow the main wash the whole way. There's a spot on the approach where you could go up a canyon on the right that looks like it holds more rock, but make sure to stay left and you'll see the tower after about 1/4 mile.
