I know they are very different jackets. I may end up getting one of each. If you have either one (or both) I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Uses: all around, alpine, rock, and ice climbing, mountaineering, BC skiing, walking the dog, riding the bike, hikes in the hills, etc.

thanks!

you heart set on a softshell? i just got the mountain hardwear quasar and it is mind blowing. if you dont use pockets that is. it has one drop pocket on the inside and thats it. super light, and kept me dry yesterday, plus the dry q elite is ridic breathable.

the knifeblade though, is on sale from patagucci...

I have a Ferrosi. Pretty awesome really. I originally bought one for my wife but had to buy one myself, it is now my go to shell.

I have 3 hardshells and live in california. I just sold my OR alibi softshell which was nice but i found the fit a bit restrictive and it was a bit heavy. So im trying to replace it with something lighter and stretchier. I really dont climb ice much, and typically use a hardshell for alpine skiing, so breathability and stretch are more important than wind/waterproofness for me. The ferrosi gets great reviews and is probably going to be more versatile and appropriate for the majority of what i actually do. The knifeblade seems pretty awesome too, but it may be too specialized for cold weather climbing, and even on sale is pretty expensive.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
