Partner this Friday/Saturday for an out-of-towner in SLC area

Hey. I'll be in the SLC area for a week starting Thursday night (5/24).

I have the entire weekend free (including all day Friday). It would be a shame if I didn't get to do any climbing, but my partner backed out at the last minute.

I also might be interested in doing some mountaineering in the area, maybe one of the Wasatch 11,000 ft peaks.

what ratings are you looking for? sport or trad?

I'm a bit of a beginner.
I'll follow any single-pitch up to (and including) 5.10 on sport or trad.
I'll follow up to a 5.9 on multi-pitch.
I'll lead sport up to 5.8 (or 5.9 if there's not much runout) or possibly VERY easy trad (5.5, 5.6).

I've never actually done a multi-pitch climb and I've never placed my own trad (except for toprope trad), but I'm eager to learn both. I recently bought some trad gear to learn with.

I'm gone until Sunday, but if you're up for some morning climbing next week I've been meaning to climb Sport Utility Crag. Sport climbing within your range, easy access. Would be perfect for a few hours in the morning because it stays shaded and cool until 1pm or so.

I probably won't have any free time after Sunday. I'm attending a conference in Snowbird all week.
If you want to climb on Sunday, I'm down.
Otherwise, I'll do what I can to escape my conference and cimb after Sunday, but it's not likely. If I do manage to find some time next week, it would probably be in the evening.

Robert, are you attending the Applied Math conference? If so, you will probably find several people there who'd be willing to take you out. I bet you'll have time in the evenings...the crags aren't that far from the 'Bird.

Cheers,
Bobby

Yeah, I'm going to the SIAM conference.
I hope your right about having climbing opportunities during the week.

I know several climbers that are going to be at that conference. The trick is convincing them that they want to go climbing with you.

Hint: Beer is a great negotiating tool in Utah.

could/would you be able to do a 2-3 pitch moderate (5.6) trad route either sat or sun?

Possibly, i'll let you know tomorrow.
