I'm moving up to Juneau and wondering if there is any climbing or bouldering nearby. I'll be working 6 days a week, won't have a car, so I'm interested in anything close to town if there is any. Any info would be great.

I didn't find much locally. There's a roadcut some people climb on the road south of the university (it heads to the water--I forgot the name) and another road cut heading north to the end of the road. There's also a climbing gym at the university rec center. I did some cragging outside of Whitehorse, Yukon (a ways away) but got chased away by AK sized bugs.
The best climbing near Juneau has got to be on the Medendenhall Towers, but you probably want a chopper to get to them.
I was there for a couple of months, and was jonesin' pretty bad. Good luck.

Hey Rik,

The East Mendenhall Glacier trail is awesome. You can look down on the glacier when you get up on the trail a bit. Check out the beautiful blue water falls in the crevasses on the glacier. You should go check out the Alaskan Brewery and you have to eat at the Mexican food place on the main strip, it's sooooo good. Fresh Halibut fish tacos, yum I'm hungry. (I'll tell you the name later, can't think of it right now). Have fun! Oh yeah, there are a ton of porcupines. It's crazy!

The Tracy Arm is beautiful. We saw baby seals and all kinds of those puffin birds. It is awesome and cheaper than most of the other glacier tours. We just went out with a local guy and it was great and included a hearty lunch.

Make sure to take some time off and explore. Its a great place.. If you like flowers, you should look for the chocolate lilies that live under the ferns, they are gorgeous.

The name of the Mexican restuarant is called the El Sombrero. They also have really good enchilada sauce.

Thanks for the responses, I'm very eager to do some exploring around. In the mtns and in the brewery.:) I will have to definently check out El Sombrero. Always love a good enchilada.

Hey, I spent a month up there last summer and found tons of rock climbing from like 5.6 to 5.13 just ask around and check rockclimbing.com. A few must do areas are the one downtown and north of town there are some sea cliffs (low tide only).

P.S. I only sport climb so that is all I looked at.
