Description

This area known in the winter time for its skiing hosts several small granite peaks as well other outcropping. In the summer time the lakes thaw out and provide fishing and cold swimming. Once July rolls around everything is pretty well trawed out and rock climbing is possible. During the winter and spring months snow climbing and a bit of ice can be found. Avalanche danger is present though.

Historical Notes: During the early 70s Mead Hargis and Dave Jenson did several routes on Lee's Peak. Occasional some of their old pins can be found. Tim Bailey and I found one on a route that is to the left of the main ramp route on Lee's Peak. Dave Jenson also did some routes on Lakes Lookout. (Source Dave Jensen)

In 1971 John McCormick, Dick Pooley, and Dave Nelson did some climbing on Lakes Lookout. (Source Wy'east Climber 1971)

Getting There

From the town of North Powder, take Exit 285 off Interstate 84 and follow "Anthony Lakes" signs 21 paved miles west on what becomes Road 73.

I've heard rumors of granite bouldering out in this area. Is that a possibility?

There is granite bouldering. We did some above Hoffer Lake as I remember (it has been a long time - 20+ years ago). One boulder I remember had a fun face 10-15' high with a nice flat sandy landing. Just have to poke around. The current locals have put much more recently.
