| I'll be in Austin for one night next week; where should I go/what should I see? I get in about 6 in the evening and have to be functional for a work event the next morning, but I'd love to see a tiny slice of the town. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Brigette | FLAG |

| If you want to drink go to 6th street. If you want to have fun outdoors / climb and stay in town go to Zilker Park. A nice, new guide book for the Austin area is Austin Rocks by Sean O'Grady. There are quite a few areas around Austin to climb. I guess if you're there at night you probably won't climb. If you don't like to drink there are quite a few shops / restaurants on Congress Avenue. | FLAG |

| RoadHouse Rags, south Austin. Vintage clothes and good music in the back yard. Really and the shows end early. | FLAG |

| There's a good mexican restaurant called Little Acapulco's. That's pretty good. Other than that, having been born and raised in TX and spent lots of time down in Austin, I can say with authority that the whole state blows. At least you won't be stuck there for long! | FLAG |

| It all depends on what night you'll be in town and where you're staying. I wouldn't go anywhere near Zilker Park next week after dark unless you can walk there - they're lighting the Christmas tree there and the roads will be a complete zoo. Sixth Street is almost always a festering cesspool after dark, so unless that's your thing, I'd stay away. I'd say go to the Whip In. It's basically a beer store, but with good Indian food, a bar, great beer selection (drink there or carry out), and free live music every night. It's convenient to get to from the airport, no parking problems, no crazy crowds, great atmosphere. The food trailers are quintessentially Austin, too. Get breakfast tacos in the morning if you have the time - Torchy's, Tacodeli, Juan in a Million, or just about any roadside trailer you pass. | FLAG |

| Thanks for the input! I'll be staying off of MLK, near the University, and won't be renting a car, so stuff walking-distance or an easy taxi ride away would be awesome. I'll be there on a Monday night, so I don't expect that there will be a ton of fun stuff to do. A good drink/beer and live music would be great. I live in Tucson, so I probably won't be looking for Mexican food. Indian food sounds good. | FLAG |

| Ahh, if you're close to campus, there's also The Clay Pit on Guadalupe for Indian and then you can wander across the street to the Dog and Duck Pub for a nightcap. There are plenty of other places up and down Guadalupe from MLK, mostly your typical college bar fare. | FLAG |
