Old belay device uses?
|
I have quite a few old retired belay devices such as ATCs with the cables cut off, stitch plates, and figure 8's. At least 6 or more of each. |
|
I've seen more than a few figure 8s incorporated in the chains at the tops of climbs. They make great rap anchors. |

He would proof test new unused Figure-8s, then cut in half, and then use as rap rings. They are basically new. I would not suggest the same with old worn out Figure-8s. The same for other belay devices - if you do not want to use them for belaying/rapping WTF would anyone else? Toss the damn things in the recycle bin. |

Along with some old pins, a wind chime. . . |

8's make for heavy rigging plates... |

Hexes made into shifter knobs: |

an old stitch plate with a little filing makes a good bottle opener. |

I've had a few wind chimes made of old metal ski poles of different lengths, with a wooden 'mallet' in the middle attached to a painted artsy paddle for the wind to catch. They were very charming and musical. Imagine what some old 6 inch 'bongs would sound like getting klonked around in the wind. Not sure how much noise you would get out of a clunky thick ATC or similar device though. |
