Please do not litter and observe all regulations. We had to fight to regain access at one time, and we don't want to lose the privilege again. Local ethics and refuge regulations are that no bolting is permitted unless expressly authorized by the park. Leave the hammer and nails at home, no fixed gear please. Everything will go clean.

Currently the the US Fish and Wildlife Service is reviewing the Comprehensive Conservation Plan and reviewing activities for compatibility. Contact the Access Fund or the Wichita Mountains Climber's Coalition for more information on how you can get involved in keeping the tradition of climbing safe in the Wildlife Refuge. Use extra care to avoid doing anything to change the natural resources in any way.
The area gets its name from the largest boulder in the area which was coined the Steak Dinner Boulder because of a wager in which the first person to climb its blank west face would recieve a free steak dinner at the Plantation House in Medicine Park. Variety of bouldering possibilities.
Getting There
Drive Highway 49 through the Wichita Mountains and turn left (south) onto Indiahoma road and drive past the Park Ranger's Headquarters. You will pass French Lake and Fawn Creek Campground. Take a look at your mileage. The pullout for Steak Dinner Boulder is exactly 1 mile past the turn for the Fawn Creek Campground. Park there. Follow the trail heading southwest through the trees. About 30-50 yards along the trail, you will find a large boulder. This is the Steak Dinner Boulder.
