Description

This is a limestone bouldering area (some top ropes). The holds here can be polished smooth as glass. Great landings abound and endless bouldering. Many climbers sometimes. Many rednecks sometimes. Sometimes no one's around. It can be very hot in summer, but thats all of Oklahoma in August. Good and mostly shaded so its not intolerable. Where bug spray in the summer and watch out for the giant centipedes.

Here is the Oklahoma Boulderfest Guide from 2005. It was made freely available, so here is a link to my repost of it. It has most of the classic routes, but only the main area of Upper Chandler Park.

Getting There

Located near Berryhill Oklahoma just outside of Tulsa.

Coming from Tulsa:
Take 21st ST West across the Arkansas river and stay on it (makes a weird left). Eventually (couple miles) it will turn into Avery drive and at this point their is a big hill on the South (left) that has CHANDLER PARK written in big white rocks. Drive up this hill. Continue on the main road and park in the lot on the right with the sign explaining that boulder hopping can be dangerous. Walk down the stone stairs or scramble down the gully. If you hit Sand Spings on Avery Dr you went to far.

If you still can't find it, look for Chandler Park on the map. It's near Berryhill and Sandsprings right next to the Arkansas River (about 200 yds from the river bank). The GPS dot linked through this page is exactly to the upper Chandler parking lot. Park there and you can't miss it.

Some of the lesser known, but quality areas are found by driving up further towards Sand Springs on Avery Drive, past the sign to watch out for bikers. Park in parking areas on the side of the road and bushwack up to them. Look at the specific area for more details.

Giant Centipede. Watch out for these guys. That one is about 15" long. I think Dan Schuerch took this picture.
