I recently moved to Oklahoma from Joshua Tree, CA and am having a hard time finding people that like to climb outside of the gym. I live about 25 min from Robbers Cave and running out of places to solo. If you are interested and live near by please hit me up. I'm also up for an adventure in the aria or afar.

Welcome to Oklahoma Zach. Despite what you see the state is not flat. The most popular outdoor crags are Wichita Mountains (by Lawton) and Quartz Mt. (by Altus).

I would say the Wichita's are by far the best IMHO, and while I have not been to Joshua Tree, my understanding is the two areas are pretty similar. (both granite, both a trad mentality, with natural anchors from pro favored over bolts, so you need a basic rack for most things)

If you want more sport climbing, with more moderate routes then check out Horseshoe Canyon Ranch (HCR) outside of Jasper AR.

For me living in Norman, I tend to go to the Wichita's more, a bit over an hour and a half (probably going for a day trip to Mt. Scott Sunday), but this last weekend some friends and I went out to HCR for the weekend.

For you in McAlester it would be about the same travel time to either HCR or Wichita's.

For Oklahoma Climbing, Tony Mayse's "Oklahoma Select" is the main guide book. You can probably find it on Amazon, otherwise Rocktown in OKC carries it, so do the Backwoods stores.

I'm by no means a great climbing, but if you are interested in someone showing you the ropes in the Wichita's PM me your info.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
