Northwest Formation Rock Climbing
This formation is about 200 feet northwest of the South Formation; it has a long, flat, elongated summit. The northeast side only has low angled slabs; however, the southwest side yields quality high-angle face climbs on clean granite. To date there are only 3 or 4 routes on this formation. The climbs get plenty of sun and offer spectacular views of the Diamond and Mt Meeker.
There are three ways to approach the climbs. From the saddle between the formations bushwhack along the northwest side; rappel in from the top; or scramble (third class) down the ramp accessed from the northwest corner.

Career Day starts circa 35 feet right of the ramp on the southwest face. Climb up and right on easy rock to lean over to clip the first bolt. Commit to the face on the left and thin insecure moves (the crux) above the first bolt. Sustained face climbing and slabbing take you to the final bolt and the run-out on hollow flakes to the top. There is decent fall potential between the last bolt and the anchors. Have Fun....[more] Browse More Classics in CO
