Tons of stuff available. Craigslist (saltlakecity.craigslist.org) seems to be the best resource.

Sugarhouse is a nice, funky area although quickly being redeveloped. Being a climber, try to find something along the upper benches (Foothill, Mill Creek, Holladay, Cottonwood Heights, etc.). Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons are a mere 10-15 minutes away.
