"Hand over the precious metals." Classsic! That just shows that most criminals are criminals for a reason.

In all seriousness, this is really disgusting and unfortunate. I'm glad he didn't decide to do something really stupid and hurt anyone.

Furthermore, that guy won't be able to do anything with the gear or computers because everyone will know its hot. Our community is a small one.

The lesson learned here is to not buy ice screws off craigslist from some huge, tattooed dude that looks like he grew up somewhere tropical.

I sometimes see people trying to sell large quantities of gear or new gear and wonder where they get it. I'm sure that 99% of the stuff is legitimate. Still, I think it would be prudent and reasonable to ask for some form of proof that the items are legally theirs to sell. Most climbers know their racks pretty well and can at least give you some specifics.

Just my 2 cents.
Evan

Perhaps the first ascent with a full bottle of scotch and the first descent with a half bottle of scotch left over?

Why the fuck did they wait ten minutes to call the police!?!?!?

I could envision something like "Get in this back room and don't come out or I'll kill you" being a pretty good reason to stay away from the phone until you're absolutely sure the giant monster wielding an ice axe is gone.

Obviously this is entirely speculation, but it seems like there'd be plenty of ways to intimidate someone into not calling the police for a few minutes at least.

And you'd think that would've been reported, but as any accident report in the news tells ya, they're not really interested in getting EVERY detail.

Touching the sun on the Mexican Caulk Gun.

Why didn't they hit him upside the head with a #6 Camolot?
