Well, the point is, this wasn't a climbing accident, but was initially reported as one.

Reporter: "What was he doing?"

Witness: "Climbing on a rope swing near some rocks."

Reporter: (sounds of rusty cogs turning and ratchets clicking into place): "A rock climber fell".

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only "orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weaner pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.
The trib article read ok to me.

As far as classifying the accident, I wouldn't put too much into something like this unless they reported multi-day search costs of a lost day-hiker scrambling about the hills as to an evac off of schoolroom.

Exactly, I'm just surprised they didn't mention that he was "scaling" something.

I remember swinging on a rope swing up there years ago. I'm sorry to hear that happened.

Poor reporting by KSL for sure!

Slack reporting for sure. I'm guessing it is the rope swing that gets perpetually hung on the trees between Goldfingers and Grayo. A local resident has been chopping that thing for years attempting to ward off such an accident (and destroying good teenage fun)(and cleaning up their mess). Tragic to hear another of our golden youth lost to mucking around.

I hope it wasn't Amanda Butterfield reporting....
