My car was in view from Psychobabble Wall. Turned my head to belay and in minutes some scum of the earth smashed my window and stole my belongings.

That really sucks, but the thieves have been hitting that area for two decades now. As it goes, the thieves are now targeting cars with "climbing related" stickers on them. They know you are going to be gone a while, and can break in without too much worry. I don't know if your car had any stickers on them, but I mention this so all climbers will think about what they are really telling people when they place those advertisements on cars. I really hope that someone catches these jerks, so we can send them through the jail systems where hopefully they will get the A$$ r@ping they deserve!

Pretty ironic I posted this thread just yesterday re gear for sale on ebay: http://www.mountainproject.com/v/colorado__rocky_mountain_re>>>>>

If folks are ripping off climbing gear they're likely going to sell it online or pawn it. I'd keep an eye out on both places if you can.

Don't leave anything in your car, and make it obvious nothing is there.

Seems like this happens a lot at the Crescent Crack trailhead too. A few of us should organize a good ole fashioned stake out. 5 or 6 people on rotating 2 hour shifts a couple nights a week watching a bait car filled with visible shit would, at the very least, get my fat ass off the couch. I'll bring a set of hexes for the beat down. Now, who's with me?

Sorry to hear about your car. My car got broken into two months ago. No climbing gear was taken, but they got my phone. Major PITA! Apparently it happens all the time in Clear Creek Canyon and Boulder Canyon here in CO. I would love to catch someone in the act.

Rosco, A fine animal.

I think the stake out idea is great! I'd love to catch some thieving little prick and beat the shit out of them! (or at least turn them in) If that is going to happen, let me know, I'd love to help. About 15 years ago I was up at the Gate Buttress boulders doing a little circuit after a day of climbing. I went around to the other side of the main gate boulder and when I came back around my pack with rack, rope, and harness was missing. It was happening back then, and it has gotten worse since then. It's time this kind of thing gets stopped and we are left in peace.

they sell hunting type of cameras with motion sensors that you can put in a tree pretty cheap.

or stake them out and video the whole thing. get the bust in the newspaper and thieves will think twice.

I'd be up for the stake out also.

Ben goes agroid, complete sympathy.

The way to make a lasting impression is to hang them off the monolith or such,

maybe put a sign on them

"this is what happens to thieves"

Maybe we should all put NRA and hunting stickers on the cars.

And you think climbing gear is pawnable? Try KSL.com for guns.

These folks are after a quick buck. Anything visible in your car is at risk. So, don't leave anything in your car (duh!).

its more about the implication that hunters can shoot you. And it was mainly a joke.

but, you are correct. the best bet is to not leave anything visible in your car

Parked in the lot above the reservoir tonite and there were two piles of broken glass. Really didn't feel comfortable leaving my car but figured that's what I buy insurance for. Luckily, no vandals or theives this evening.
