Sometimes I feel like bait.

The Redding area is close to Castle Crags, which has some awesome moderate-hard trad climbs. The crags are about 45 minutes north, off of I-5. Also steep limestone at Shredding, which is east of Redding of hwy 299. Lassen NP has single and multi pitch routes on quality rhyolite. The Chico area has Grizzly Dome just off hwy 70. Toward the coast from Redding is the Trinity Alps, with amazing alpine granite. Further toward the coast is the Trinty Aretes as well as other choice limestone crags.

A lazy afternoon at Big Sandy. Big Sandy is plenty big and multi-terraced; it makes a wonderful place to relax and watch the birds.

Try out Bald Rock Dome. It's about an hour drive from Chico, up in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. There are about 20 established multipitch climbs up to about 5 pitches. It's mostly friction climbing. The pro isn't always perfect, so select your route accordingly. There has been rebolting activity there in the last several years, so many of the scarier 1/4 inch rusty bolts have been replaced with new 5-piece rawls.

There are some shorter climbs in the Bald Rock Dome picnic area...a few are good, others just exist. BRD sits above the Class V middle fork of the feather river, it's kinda fairly remote, and absolutely beautiful.

Cheers,
Nate
