Gallatin Tower festivities. 5/5/04.

How good is the selection in the park? Can you get produce etc..? I've heard that there is a Trader Joe's in a community pretty close by- is that true?

The grocery store is reasonable. There's a small selection of produce, if you're used to Smith's/Kroger's etc. you'll find the selection very small, but it's not that bad.

When I lived in Yosemite West (up by by the glacier park turnoff), we'd go shopping in Oakhurst once a week or so, I think it's a Von's there with much better selection and lower prices. It's about an hour away (but add 40 min to that if you're living in the Valley). I remember having to drive all the way out to Fresno for Trader Joe's, but maybe they built one closer.

Unfortunately, the closest Trader Joe's is Fresno, at 5376 N. Blackstone. It's a 2-hour drive from the Valley floor. The grocery store in the Valley is fairly good, but expensive. Your best bet is to stock up at TJs in Fresno (if you're coming in that direction), then hit Vons in Oakhurst to supplement.

I found the store to be adequate. The prices are fine unless you want items like batteries, disposable razors, soap and stuff like that. Food is like 20% more than a regular store, so it's doable.

Bring all the beer your car can carry.
