A portion of the Near Trapps has been closed to climbing. This includes land below the cliff to above cliff line and starts approximately at Eenie Meenie and continues south about 200 feet. Climbers are asked to respect the no-trespassing signs and advised to use the access trail marked in orange blazes. This trail starts at the intersection of the Blue trail over the top of the Nears and the first Red trail. Follow the orange blazes east and downhill from this junction to arrive at the far (south) end of the Nears. For more information please view http://www.mohonkpreserve.org/index.php?news
Climb or jump to the good bucket holds, stand up and then move slightly left and go up the face (crux) to the overhang. After the hang, the belay/rappel tree is about 25 feet farther. Although not recommended in the guide and given a PG/R protection rating, I thought it had some decent climbing and the protection was adequate. This is another one of the newer Near Trapps mini-routes: quite short, but that's no secret.
Location
Forty feet left of Ambien Knights, there is a crack in a shallow open book; the crack leads to an overhang. On the right side of the open book there are several large and obvious buckets.
