Welcome to the New Mexico section of Mountain Project!
The contributions that are made to this site are greatly appreciated; this site is made up of an awesome community of users that make the site what it is.
Although there is very little information regarding “rules” for submitting climbing areas and routes to this site, the New Mexico Administers all agree that the following guidelines may be helpful to truly make this site go “Beyond the Guidebook”.
1) Don’t be a jerk (this one states the obvious). 2) Route and area submissions should truly be helpful to those out climbing. Before posting, you should have some first hand experience actually climbing the route. This always results in a much more useful description. 3) Please, please, please… Don’t copy route descriptions directly out of guidebooks, online publications, etc. This is plagiarism! Remember, BEYOND the guidebook! 4) Please use the spell check and make an effort to use correct grammar.
Again, the Mountainproject community truly appreciates the efforts taken to make good route descriptions. If you feel that a route or area description is not up to standard, a brief email to one of the area admins for suggestions on improvement will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to make the New Mexico section of Mountain Project quality! We look forward to seeing you out there!
Description
A good winter wall with several classic routes. South facing, the wall gets winter sun from mid-morning to afternoon. Some of the harder classics from left to right are:
(01) Pocket Change (5.11c/d) (02) Route of all Evil (5.11c/d) (03) The Bowels of Hell (5.11d) (04) Payday (5.10a/b) 5) Vegetable Massacre 5.11- (variation start to Payday; sport) 6) Rebate 5.10 (sport, start at lower ledge, joins Payday at the top) 7) Gold Rush 5.8+ (sport, separate anchor) 8) Easy Money 5.7 (sport, separate anchor) 9) Wedding Day 5.10+/5.11- (sport, up and right of the lower Pocket Change ledge)
Pocket Change is rumored to be one of the best 11c's in the state. (As long as you consider Golden Stairs to be 11b).
There are some more moderates on the right side of the cliff 5.8 - 5.11a.
Getting There
Hike past Major Wall and follow trails that wind steeply up to the cliff base. There are two trails that will take you to the wall, one of which involves some slight scrambling. Once you get near the cliff make a left. (A right takes you to Alcohol Wall South). Pocket Change Wall is just around the corner from Alcohol Wall South.
There are additional routes to the right of Payday. They follow from left to right:
Vegetable Massacre 5.11- (variation start to Payday; sport) Rebate 5.10 (sport, start from lower ledge, joins Payday at the top) Gold Rush 5.8+ (sport, separate anchor) Easy Money 5.7 (sport, separate anchor) Wedding Day 5.10+/5.11- (sport, up and right of the lower Pocket Change ledge)
