The main drainage of Pueblo Canyon hosts some of the longer crack climbs in Los Alamos on welded tuff. 2 of these routes are described in the Jemez Rock guidebook. If you explore the area you'll find many compelling lines that would be classic if the rock was more consistently of high quality.
Getting There
A number of different directions can be used to get into Pueblo Canyon. Knowledge of the local trail system is key.
The shortest approach to the high bridge over Pueblo Canyon is off of Olive St. From north of the high school on Diamond Drive, go east on Orange, then left on Olive, walk past ruins of the old sewer treatment plant.
To enter the main canyon, you can hike down from the Pueblo Complex off of Diamond Dr.
A fairly quick way to the lower part of the main drainage is down the Acid Canyon and Ranch School trails from the Walkup Aquatic Center parking lot off Canyon Rd.
You can also get to these areas from Walnut St., which is north of Pueblo Canyon (see a map for directions).
