Welcome to the New Mexico section of Mountain Project!
The contributions that are made to this site are greatly appreciated; this site is made up of an awesome community of users that make the site what it is.
Although there is very little information regarding “rules” for submitting climbing areas and routes to this site, the New Mexico Administers all agree that the following guidelines may be helpful to truly make this site go “Beyond the Guidebook”.
1) Don’t be a jerk (this one states the obvious). 2) Route and area submissions should truly be helpful to those out climbing. Before posting, you should have some first hand experience actually climbing the route. This always results in a much more useful description. 3) Please, please, please… Don’t copy route descriptions directly out of guidebooks, online publications, etc. This is plagiarism! Remember, BEYOND the guidebook! 4) Please use the spell check and make an effort to use correct grammar.
Again, the Mountainproject community truly appreciates the efforts taken to make good route descriptions. If you feel that a route or area description is not up to standard, a brief email to one of the area admins for suggestions on improvement will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to make the New Mexico section of Mountain Project quality! We look forward to seeing you out there!
Description
A nice little crag about a mile beyond the Las Conchas climbing area. This small crag has many good routes on the same type of rock as Las Conchas. Though there are few routes currently at this crag, there is a nice range in levels from 5.6 to 5.12b/c.
Getting There
Follow the directions to the Las Conchas climbing area, then continue about a mile beyond. Pull out on the left side of the road at mile marker 37.
Follow a faint trail through the grass to a barbed wire fence. Jump across it and hike up the hill to the crag.
Beautiful, steeply overhung route at the far left side of the crag. Not as far left as Frosted Mini Wheats, or Mini Wheats, however. Sustained! Crux is near the top of the route. ...[more]
A big chunk of rock came off of "Cyclic Loader" yesterday while two climbers were on it. It's safe to say the rock at Area 37 isn't of the highest quality and is more prone to breaking when it's been wet (like it has been recently.) Use caution at this area after it's been raining.
Routes from Left to Right at this area are: 1. Frosted Mini Wheats 5.10a 2. Mini Wheats 5.6 3. Leprosy 5.11b/c (says 11b on the wall in chalk) 4. A Walk in the Park 5.11c 5. The Balance of Power 5.11d 6. Stewed Prune 5.8+ 7. Cyclic Loader 5.10d/11a 8. Bag of Sand 5.11c/d 9. "The In Between" 5.10a (Unknown name) 10. Keardo 5.12b/c 11. Cherry Pickin 5.11b 12. Sending Data 5.8 13. Bizarre Ritual 5.10b
