BETA PHOTO: The Split Boulder is home to numerous hard lines

Description

This area calls to the high baller in all of us. With the main boulder being 20+ feet, it definitely has a presence in the park. Many of the problems here are really hard and committing such is the case with Bones to Bitz (V3), a large off-width highball leaning right. And as for the hard aspect of the boulder there is Halcyon (V11) whi ch is an awesome line going up the main prow feature of the boulder. But don’t let the large boulder detour you from this area it has a smaller boulder next to it which offers a few good problems as well.

Getting There

Follow the trail from the parking lot until you cross a stream. There will be a huge boulder on your right. That’s the main split boulder.

One of the very best boulder problems at Pawtuckaway. Don't climb too far unless you're sure of what you're doing. A funky layback/kneebar keeps the"riff raff" away at the bottom. A classic squeeze chimney follows which then pinches off at the top. You must then leave the security of the chimney for the crux - a surprisingly awkward scrunch move makes the transition to the mossy slab above. You really wouldn't want to pop off here. Is the morgue the highball up the shallow groove to left of the big chimney? Thats a tough route and very commiting.
