Climbing at waterworld. A really nice slot canyon.
Description
A small tight limestone canyon can be found 10 miles west of Lone Mtn. The climbing is sport on sharp gray limestone. Routes are around 30' to 60'
Getting There
The area has seen a lot of development so I am not sure of the current access. Drive west through a quarry off of the 215 somewhere around W. Lone Mtn. RD. Once through the quarry look South for the obvious slot canyons. Hike south over or around a small ridge into the canyon. Head South up canyon for Trench Town turn West at the junction to get to Water World.
Waterworld has some of the nicest moderate limestone climbing around. In this wacky world of chipped desperates, this beautiful slot canyon is a breath of fresh air and a great place to enjoy some desert solitude. The mining situation has created some hazardous and labrynthine methods of reaching this area that none of the guidebooks cover effectively; Las Vegas is an ever-changing landscape as the houses creep up against the mountains. I am trying to get a best-case scenario map for the hike in if you drive a compact car and a helpful desert topo for the dicey 4WD over the sketchy hill and SOFT wash. Don't miss this area-it rivals St. George's Soul Asylum for a good day of moderate, fun, very high quality limestone. My buddy Danger Dragon and I climbed all these routes in a day, had shade, and a great time. More info soon.
