Description

The Chocolate Rocks are the southernmost crags in Red Rock. The routes face south and east making for a sunny day of climbing.

Getting There

From Las Vegas, drive west on Highway 160 (Blue Diamond Highway), to the intersection with Highway 159 (Blue Diamond Cutoff). Continue west on 160 for about 6.75 miles. The Rocks are on your right, to the north. Park at the dirt pullout at a gate. Hike down into the wash and up the hillside threading a route through the white and pink cliff bands to the base of the brown varnished cliffs. A trail exists, marked by cairns.

Peanut Butter and Jam 5.9+  NV : Red Rock : Chocolate Rocks
Peanut Butter and Jam is a typical Joe Herbst offering on the right hand side of the Chocolate Rocks featuring awkward offwidth moves. Build an anchor at the top, walk off left to the slung boulder atop Mc-Crack-En and rap with one rope....[more]

A trip here is really worthwhile. The routes are a little short, but a lot of fun and the rock quality is pretty bomber. It faces south and provides optimal weather in the winter. The highway traffic is a little loud. Every route I've done here seems to have old-school ratings - full value for sure.

This is a fun area; however, if you go by the quality ratings in the Brock guide you might be a little disappointed. A 2-star destination with a handful of moderate, short routes and generally good rock. Count on a 20-minute approach, no crowds, and plenty of sun.
