An overview of the area. Mount Wilson is the big ...

Description

This is a huge area with very few recorded routes. Long, tricky approaches and convoluted topography help to keep the crowds elsewhere. On the other hand, if you have a taste for seclusion, adventure, and exploration, this area would be worth a look.

The main terrain features are a series of complex buttresses and ridges strung out along the northern side of Mount Wilson. On their eastern edge these border on the Cactus Flower Tower, and a scramble up the Tower's west ridge can provide the overview to help make sense of the rugged country.

Getting There

Walk in on the Oak Creek Trail. Pass beneath Solar Slab and continue in the streambed for a few hundred yards to the obvious fork. Go left up the south fork. After a short distance the streambed branches in several directions. If you stay all the way to the left, a slabby canyon leads steeply east (back toward the road) between Cactus Flower Tower and the main mass of Mount Wilson. This is the start of the approach for Line of Addiction. Other branches go west.
