My partner and I are talking about a trip to Zion to have a go at Moonlight Butress. We have all the necessary big wall gear less a portaledge. We are looking at going sometime toward the end of October and will be road tripping from Fort Collins. Wondering if there is anyone out there that would be willing to lend us a double portaledge/fly for a nominal fee (including beer).
Again, we haven set a date yet but it will likely be toward the end of October. Please let me know if you can help of if anyone knows of a rental company in the area, that would work too.
Thanks a ton,
Tyler

You don't need a ledge for moonlight. Do it in a push or fix and fire.

On the other hand, sleeping on a ledge on the Buttress could be a lifetime memory, or even quite romantic!

I'd start eyeing up craigslist. I saw one up on the denver site about every 2-3 months. They're going for 150-300. Not too bad, and you can always turn it around again.

There's one for sale on another MP.com post.

It's a single, but you might be able to make it work, depending where on the route you're planning on camping.

You're gonna be hard pressed to find someone that's willing to loan one out to you. They can get beat up pretty easily on a wall.

You might wanna look into Andrew's advice. It is pretty feasible to do that route in a day.

If any of the posted options don't work out you can pick up a "Womb With A View" from Mountain Tools for $135 which is a copy of the old Forrest Wall Womb, my old Wall Womb was not terribly comfortable but did the job.

I suppose, but hauling a lot of crap in Zion really wears on the rock - i'm not sure if you've been there or not, but you can see the haul bag wear lines on some of the routes from the road. It is pretty ugly.

Moonlight is also pretty much always a conga line, not always easy to pass on, and semi-popular as a free route. Out of respect to others, it is a good route to do as quickly as possible.

That's good to know. While it's on my tick list, I've yet to make the trip.

Wall Wombs were great! They had a spreader bar to help the the shoulder issues. I wish I knew were mine was.

Yeah Allen, me too! I went back to Kentucky to visit family and my Wall Womb had vanished along with my old tube chocks, mine had the purple and lime rainfly.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
