Has anyone been to Necedah (Petenwell Bluff)yet this season? Is it still icy? Is it dry? I just moved to the Midwest and I have no idea how the conditions will be. Its been warm, but I just want to make sure it won't be a mud-fest on the approach and/or icy or seeping on the rock.

There very well may be a bit of all these conditions you mention. But there will also be plenty of options for dry warm rock if you stick to the sunny exposures. Bring a tarp to stage from at the crag base to help keep everything dry and dirt free. That's a good idea anytime of the year at Neceedah because of the sandy soil in the area.

I'll probably wait a few weeks as its a bit of a drive for me, don't wanna get all the way there and not have things be climbable...I live in the twin cities, any good south facing crags with moderate climbs within a few hours? Barn bluff is still pretty icy.

I was up there Saturday and conditions were great.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
