Question #1: On the CCC's website they mention that "All routes b/w and including C.O. to and including Paradigm Shift" are closed due to Peregrine Falcon closures. I've never heard of these routes, thus I'm not sure where the closures are at. I consulted The NC Select Climbs guide book topo's and MP and couldn't come up with any solid beta. Is the entire cliff closed or just a tiny section?

Question #2: This weekend is suppose to be cool and dry in Western NC. If one were to climb Seconds at Laurel Knob:

A- Would it be seeping at all?
B- Is there any potential for falling ice that has frozen and is cutting loose up top?

Any beta would be greatly appreciated. Thank in advance!

The far south end at Shortoff that's closed is well beyond Construction Job. While there are a few good routes over there, most people never venture that far -- too bad, because it is the warmest part of the cliff.

Seconds was dry yesterday and will be dry this weekend. At times the grooves will be wet in the morning, but just be patient because they typically dry in the morning and then start running again in the evening (this effect is more pronounced in winter when ice is involved; it has to melt first). Their are plenty of non-groove routes that can also be climbed while you wait, if need be.

As far as closures are concerned on the NC Wall; where exactly does Tightrope start?

Just south of "Dancin' in The Dragons Jaws" which is just south of the Mossy Monster. So, pretty much the whole NC wall between Apricot and the Ampitheatre.

Tightrope (and many others) were in the old NC guidebook, but I don't think they've been published in a guide in about 20 years now. Between the old lost routes and a bunch of new routes we could really use an updated guide to the area.

To bad one of the only guys I know of who has enough knowledge about the area is to busy putting up more new routes ;-)
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
