Does anyone know how the ice is looking near Munising right now. Is it looking good for the ice fest?? Thanks

Check michiganicefest.com/ for Conditions. They haven't posted for about 2 weeks but it looks like there were climbable routes. I imagine by next weekend there should be plenty of ice to be had for the fest.

We climbed this weekend. The curtains were ok. Drippy. There were a about four different groups out climbing in that area. Dryer hose was climbed by groups yesterday and then today when my husband was on it he heard water, planted his ax and heard a big crackling settling of the ice then promptly came down. A little sketchy. We also visited sweet mother Moses the other day which was being climbed and there were some other potential climbs out that way. Weve heard people say it will be ok for ice feet but most climbs will be a walk or a hike.

Will there be enough ice for all the climbers to have a go?

Hello, I'll be in Michigan for work and plan on having this weekend (Feb 18-19) free and would greatly appreciate some beta on conditions. Any updates or suggestions would be great since this is my first time to the area.

Also, if anyone knows of a good place in Munising or Michigan in general to look for partners I'm in the market. I have a reasonable amount of ice climbing experience and full rack of screws, tools, etc. TR up to the WI 5 range.

Cheers,
Lance

I was up there last weekend and lots of the climbs were in but not great. If you head to the curtains area there are probably 5-8 good lines from WI3+-WI5 that are really easy to set up top ropes on. Right next door to the curtains is the Dryer Hose which was in O.K. shape it felt reasonable and safe on lead.

Update from 02/19-20:
~ Curtains are in - at least 2 climbable flows
~ Sweet Mother Moses is in and sweet
~ Giddy Up is in but still has a fair amount of water flowing behind the ice
~ Dairyland is in, and beautiful
~ The last 2 routes just before the Cliffs Campsite spur (en route to Dairyland) are marginal
~ The formation just past Dairyland hasn't touched down

Bill,
Is HMR the name of the route or an abbrieviation? I recently added that climb to the database but couldn't find the name anywhere:

Hey Lance,
It's the only name of the route that I know of.
