There seem to be a lot of these threads now - so i thought I'd add my own
I've just been offered a job in Bozeman (MT). I know about Hyalite for ice and mixed, but not so much about the rock around, or anything else about it for that matter.

Does anybody have any suggestions/tips/etc... about living in and climbing around Bozeman?

Cheers

you have bozeman pass 15 minutes away for some after class sport, 35 minutes to gallatin canyon gneiss, a little less for the choss at scorched earth and hantavirus cave.

I haven't been yet, but there's some fun looking stuff at allenspur maybe half an hour east outside of livingston.

8 pitch long sport routes on the N face of ross peak. some other sport in the bridgers. practice rock is 20 minutes away.

lots of stuff to climb but it's pretty spread out, like 20+ crags within a 40 minute radius.

cody is 3 or 4 hours away for weekend trips in the winter. cooke city is closer, east rosebud.

plenty of stuff to keep you busy out here, and the valley is gorgeous . only problem is sometimes women are hard to come by.

Bozeman pass, gallatin canyon (limestone and Gneiss), Hyalite (Practice, Croc, and a ton of conglomerate), Bear Canyon, Madison River, Revenue Flats, Natural Bridge, Mill Creek, Allenspur, Yankee Jim Canyon, Pipestone, Homestake Pass, Butte, Humbug spires, EAST ROSEBUD, Beartooth/Absaroka Range!!!, Bridger Range, Helena, and on and on and on and on. There is awesome climbing from 15 mins to 4 hours. bouldering to big walls and everything in between. Just get there and start exploring.

montana ice is totally dead all the time, but I'll climb with you. send me a PM and we can exchange info. I'm in washington until mid august, but next fall and basically all year I will be in bozo and want to get out amap. I'd send you a PM but I'm really feeling lazy tonight, and I'm not sure if the job offer means you'll actually be in bozeman or not.

Drop me a line if you want to climb out west (I'm in Butte). The Humbugs are fun and classic Montana climbing.

I spent two years working in Montana near Bozeman. If you're interested I can shoot you the names of two of my ld partners. One is a girl at MSU who is a great friend of mine, the other is a boy I worked with who is an excellent partner for moderate sized missions. PM me if you want their info. I'd recommend them to most anyone.

This is the last thing the three of us did out there before I left. www.mountainproject.com/v/bees-knees-javaman-variation-finis>>>

Bring your girlfriend with you, Bozeman has one of the highest male:female ratios anywhere.

Thanks for the tip Jon, she's stuck in NZ for a bit. I'm not in the market for a new one any time soon (or ever) You should come out and climb some ice next winter.

Thanks for the partner contacts, guys, I've pm-ed you

Like we say...

A girl in Bozeman is like our parking spots.

All the good ones are taken or handicaped.

There's always the fleshlight. Almost as good, although not as socially acceptable on a date night at the bar.

I have nothing to add to the MT discussion, but this made me happy.
