I just graduated with a degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Utah and I'm considering taking a job in Boulder but have never been to the area before and looking for some local beta ;) I'm wondering if anyone might have or know of a relatively inexpensive room to rent?? The job position is in Louisville, but I'd be interested in living closer to Boulder and Movement for weekday climbing. Also be psyched to meet partners for both gym and outdoors!! Any advice/leads greatly appreciated!

When we moved here we used Craigslist to find a place to rent. Be prepared, it is wicked expensive here in Boulder. Gunbarrell, Lyons, Louisville, Golden, Superior, are all much less expensive.

Good luck.

Some things about the Boulder housing market. First its a school town, so it's very cyclical with leases usually starting in August. Many of those places are already snatched up way before then as well. It's a very competitive, and expensive market, so you need to be ready to write a check on the spot if you find a place. Not even exaggerating, I've known several people that got skunked on a great place just because they needed 15 minutes to get a check or wanted a hot second to think it over. It can be tough to find a great place, so when folks do they often don't move...like for a while.

As housing is expensive in town the best way to get a big place with a yard, windows, garage etc is to live with others. Coming from the east coast I thought it was odd being 30+ years old living with multiple roommates, but if you don't want to live in a 900 sqft apt. for $1000+ then it comes with the territory. You get some good people and deal with it. Expect to see roommates come and go, I've lived in 4+ places, and had countless roommates. That is also with my finding a sweet spot for 3+ years before the house got sold.

Craiglist is probably the best way to get a place; although there is housing helpers as well, but craigslist is the commmanding method. haha you can probably expect to move shortly after you find your first place to somewhere better. Stay away from the hill, but North Boulder is decent for price and size.

Feel free to hit me up. I moved out here 8 years ago from CT, and for all it's "quirks" never looked back. I think it's always cool to live in Boulder for a bit to experience it before you want to move someplace more "normal" and cheaper although I never got around to it.

+1 for what Scott said.

I lost a place by walking outside to make a phone call. literally 5 minutes after we verbally agreed that I was going to rent the place. I went out to call my wife and some one else came in and offered more money with no dogs. I was pissed.

Wait until you are in the buying market. I made an offer that was 10% higher than asking price, fully pre approved, and lost it to a lower offer that was all cash.

Cash is king as they say.

We have a room available in the house. PM me if interested. I climb indoors at Movement as well.

Hi it's me again! Thank you for all your prior responses. I officially have a job in Longmont and I'm making the move. I need a place by July 1 ideally somewhere between North Boulder and Longmont and between $400-600/mo including utilities. I've found a place that will work ok... but just thought I'd make one last effort in the climbing world to see if anyone has any leads. Please let me know if you have place to rent or are looking to join forces and get a place. Thanks!!
Can't wait to meet the Colorado climbing community! :)
