Movement Denver climbing rocks with stiff rope

Climbing friend,

This Sunday passing I go to plastic climbing rocks of movement Denver. The walls and route-setting seem good, even though it seem perhaps expensive, with punch pass offering poor saving of $1 per visit, and no reduced fee for only grabbing the bouldering rocks and no routes.

Usually their ropes for the climbing rocks seem quite used and stiff. I realize this ropes it will not break, but it can give harder catch and makes creaking noise in your knot when weighted. I politely ask a bald leprechaun looking staff man if I could switch out my rope for another since it seemed pretty stiff. The leprechaun man he can not conceal his look of disdain for me and my request, and he say it is probably stiff because it is a new rope.

The rope is obviously not new. It is faded sheath from being run through your device and weighted 1000s of times, and it becoming stiff almost like steel cable. I say to leprechaun man that I doubt the rope is new. He insist quite rudely that yes, it's because it's one of their newer ones.

I realize yes, this is a business that must be run, but I do not think they should be employing the people who must lie and also act like condescending dbag toward their customer. He could instead politely say we inspect the ropes constantly and it's a little worn but safe to use, or some such other sayings... I do the bold outdoor flash for many years and have bought a number of new ropes and understand rope life and inspection. I would simply crush his skull under my meaty bicep crushing headlock attack, but I very much like stay in this country for more bold flash and no deportation.

I thank you listen to my story.

I have had a couple ropes from movement that I decided not to climb on after flaking it. Returned rope, told them I personally wasn't comfortable climbing on it, and went to boulder. I would bring my own rope if I wasn't biking.

The $1 is disappointing but oh well.

Seems like all gym ropes suck.

Got a lead rope at ET that was mush. They gladly have me another, but you can't bring your own like at Movement Denver.

The yellow rope that MD sells for lead is stiff and not enjoyable to use, but I will use it til worn out I suppose.

A top rope at MD had a sharp spine down one side for about half its length. Wasn't nice to use. Seemed like a friction burn from fast rappel. Told staff, they shrugged and said "meh, probably just a mfr defect at the end of a spool." And didn't look at the rope in question.

My guess is that they hear it all day long, are sick of the moaning and groaning and have started to ignore it, so even valid complaints are ignored.

The lead rope at Movement is pretty stiff, but I haven’t had any problems with harder falls because of their rope. If you want to see what scary lead rope looks like, go to Rock’n and Jam’n 2. Last time I did some leading at RJ2, their lead ropes were soft and fuzzy at the end, and I was able to pinch it closed completely. It was only about the last 3 feet from the end, so my tie-in was above the really soft part, but it certainly doesn’t help you to feel refreshed at the crux.

Welcome to this country where the eastern european hardman climber who drinks a beer and smokes a cigarette while doing a one arm front lever is antagonized by the emo, entitled hipster gym rat.

Good luck make more bold flash.

I stopped going to my local gym because of dbags like that. You should definitely stick to the bold outdoor flash

I've brought a lead rope that looked like it was ready to move to Florida and retire back to the front desk at MD and asked for a new one with no issues.

Maybe the smell of fish heads and the threat of your bold flash scared the leprechaun?

I've consistently had the same issue at that gym. I'll return a gym rope to the desk that has such a terrible soft spot and with terrible sheath slippage. Imo it should be retired. They will exchange it for a rope in better condition for me, but will give the rope I just turned in to the next person. I bought a Mammut gym rope that has a burly sheath as the money is worth the security and the convenience.

We just bring our own ropes (by *bicycles* even!), which solves the problem of getting a crappy rope, or having to sign up for a rope. We've had the problem where we do not hear our name being called. Kinda sucks when you want to make bold flash on heavily overhanging lead wall but have no rope and free solo some reason not allowed myah!

It was like $80 for a 30m. This is for Boulder, not sure if the Denver gym would need something longer?

Climbing friend Aleks,
You must not get upset at leprechaun man for he is just jealous of your massive neck meat and your bold flash. Instead you entice him to climb with you by having him follow a trail of luna bars to the route like you do with the beautiful climbing ladies. You then belay him with the rope that feels like metal cable and have him experience hard rope at gym with plastic climbing rocks. Do not crush leprechaun man with your biceps but crush him with a hard catch.

no shit I asked dude if it was static c0rd for the gym TR tonight while getting checked out at the new place.

belaymaster dude lit'rly said: I don't know what you mean.

I said: stretchy vs not stretchy.

clueless look.....

sigh....

I too was appalled at the whopping $1 punch card discount, but it is probably part of a master plan to get you to buy a membership. FYI, Mvmt Boulder is a couple dollars cheaper.

You need at 40m rope for Mvmt. I just bring my own 60m rope, esp since I often end up there at peak hours when you need to wait for a rope.

Climbing friend,

The wee bald leprechaun man did not appear ginger, as he had no hair, although it is difficult to be telling. Yes you may bring your own rope, but if you are to do the paying of prices that are like sex crimes, you would think it quite nice to use a decent condition rope that they provide at their plastic climbing rocks, myah!?!?

Climbing friend,

This is an idea most intriguing. Do you know perhaps which flavor of luna bars would be most attractant to the climbing women? I perhaps would be leaving you a trail of luna bars, so you may find me yes, bench pressing the massive boulders shirtless in cold mountain stream, myah?

Climbing friend,

I am not understanding your posting on the internets. Is this the pricing of your asian massage parlor?

Funny thread!

I have nothing humorous to add but wanted to confirm you can't bring your own rope for leading to Earth Treks. I've been thinking about going to the gym and Earth Treks is closest, but if I can't bring my own rope I may think of going to Movement Denver. As for route setting, I don't like ET or Movement's route setting as much as the BRC, but the BRC is too far for me to drive for the gym. 3 questions:

1) So they don't let you bring your own rope to Earth Treks?

2) Are there enough ropes at Earth Treks, or is there a wait?

3) Are ET's ropes in good condition? I used to go to Boulder Rock club and their ropes were in good enough condition for me. The one I borrowed from Movement Denver looked like a tiger tail, which I liked, but seemed a bit worn and stiff so I used a personal one.

PS I can't read "consensending dbag" with an Eastern European accent.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
