Mongoose Block is the largest and arguably the best boulder in the Snake Pit. This perfect, bullet sandstone block features many easy to moderate routes with mostly flat, sandy landings. Sit down starts can be added to almost any problem for a grade boost, but its two overhanging aretes are fun at any grade.

Getting There

To find Mongoose Block, park at the South Parking Lot and hike north on the Ute Trail that lies just east of the road. Hike a couple hundred meters, and Mongoose is the large, chalked-up boulder on your left.

Low Traverse into Slapper V9 7C  CO : Colorado Springs : ... : Mongoose Block
Start low on the left side of the overhang on the large, undercling holds. In the photo, you'd have your hands roughly matched where the guy's right hand is. Stay low and move right through the start of the V4 into the start of Slapper. Finish up with Slapper! In my mind, this is the best problem at The Snakepits....[more]   Browse More Classics in CO
