Modifying Black Diamond Firstlight with more guylines

Curious if anyone had any feedback on the possibility of doing the below modifications to a BD Firstlight:

1. I would like a guyline in the middle of the walls similar to what the I Tent has. I am unsure why BD did not do this from the factory; either the material cannot handle the stress, or they cheaped out. My thoughts are to encapsulate the sidewall material with a 4x3" piece of fabric on both inside and outside. I would use either double sided tape, or some sort of adhesive such as that shoe bond stuff as well as sew then seam seal it.

2. On the front of the tent, I use the two loops which are intended for rolling up the screen/front door, as guy points (not for wind, but to just pull out the fabric a little bit for more headroom- actually makes a huge difference). I would like to do the same with the rear so my bag isn't wet in the morning from touching the wall all day.

Am I crazy for trying this? Should I just man up and get an I tent?

the folks at backpacking light would be able to help with this.

First off is it a silicon coated/impregnated nylong - issues with adhesive being only silicon based.

I would sew a small gross grain loop onto a patch of some VX-07 or some other reinforcing fabric/packcloth fabric and glue it on with a silicon adhesive. or sew it on and seal the seam which would be the easiest option.

fabrics soruces are aplenty - thruhiker, rockywoods, quest outfitters, cascadecraft works, seattle fabrics, rain shed etc...

You might be able to get away with just glueing the patch to the outer face. Sew a loop to a patch of fabric.
1.Mark the area with a pen where you'll glue the patch.
2.Apply a thin layer of barge cement / good quality contact cement on the patch and on the tent(extend 1/8inch past the marking to ensure a good overlap).
3.Let dry and then optionally apply a second coat.
4.Let dry and then mount the patch on the tent, you can use chalk to prevent the excess glue at the perimeter of the patch from sticking, keep pressure on the patch for a while, should take around 24 hours to set properly.

I've worked quite a bit with tarps and inflatables at my previous job, and that type of assembly can take quite a bit of abuse, you just need to find a glue that's compatible with both fabrics.

Thanks Luc! Thinking something like this:

can anyone recommend a material for these pull outs as well as an adhesive? Thinking some sort of 2+oz silnylon with McNetts Silnett or GE II?
