IM looking for a way to approach climbs in my mountain boots. I was thinking of trying to bolt an old alpine trekker directly onto a ski and just rig up a way to lock the heel down. Anybody ever heard of this being done before? any thoughts? am i going to die?

People have mostly used Silvrettas, but they're not made any more. Look at this thread. This set-up will work better than the Trekkers.

You could also wait until next season, shell out $750 on a pair of these and let us know if they live up to the hype: arcteryx.com/Article.aspx?l…

Alpine Trekkers are boat anchors and break all the time if used hard and often. Some styles of modern splitboard hardboot bindings may work if you want to drop the cash.

If you can find them, Silvrettas are the most time tested and budget friendly, despite not being made anymore.

As much as I hate snowshoeing (I am a good skier, so it comes with the territory), it's not much slower on the way up on a steep approach, and they are advantageous on tight trails and treed approaches.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
