Becky fooling around at Minneopa.

Description

This is a State Park, so State Park fees apply ($5/day or $25/year).

All the walls in this area tend to seep during the spring snow-melt or after a really good rainfall, so if there is a decent amount of moisture in the ground, these problems are going to be wet and nasty. The rock here is all sandstone of various qualities, some pretty good, some terrible, so be mindful of that. Don't waste your time with the bad stuff as it isn't worth ripping a block off on your face (not that I've done exactly that, ahem).

You are going to want a brush here more than anywhere in Mankato. Again, a lot of this rock is pretty questionable, be careful!

Getting There

Just a few minutes outside Mankato. Take 169 South until you are just past the golf course (on the left). Then take a right on Gadwall Rd. and follow this for less than a mile till you see a sign for Minneopa State Park on the left.

From the parking lot, walk towards the falls, across the bridge, and follow the cement path down the stone stairs. Once at the bottom of the stairs, you will see a small footbridge, turn left just before crossing this footbridge on a very faint trail. Follow this trail around the left bank of the creek for about 5 minutes and viola, you are there.
