This area is overseen by MNDOT. Keep a low profile and stay off of the highway...also, stay off of the obvious climb in the dihedral where the tunnel meets the highway! It looks tempting but it could cost access... Also note, the top is private property...

Description
Gully climbs and sweet icefalls form on the lake side of the tunnel (ie, Silver Creek Cliff) in winter. For ice, this area is better early in the season as it tends to burn out later. There are also a few bolted sport routes and potential for a few trad lines here but the rock is pretty crumbly and more cleaning would be in order. There is a bike route directly below the cliff and since MNDOT maintains the area, bikers and tourists get the right of way...
Getting There
About 8 miles north of Two Harbors. Park in the scenic pull off and follow the bike trail up to the cliff.
Hello, I put up this route in the spring of 2004. The climb is called Elyses Revenge and is rated at 5.7. The route is as flakey and crumbly as a bad relationship. The crux comes to thirds of the way up as the holds get more thin and crumbly as you make your way over the bulge towards the top anchors. This route will test your footwork and your ability to hold on to sloper, much like a over-obsessive girlfriend. The route usually gets better in the summer as the loose rock dries up and falls off.
It has been a couple of years since I have been there. I used to go to UMD there in Duluth. The bolts are bomber 4 inchers and were hand placed. If I would have spent more time hitting the books and less time drilling holes my grades would have been much higher. Thanks for the post. -Eric
