Mind Shaft Crack Right. AZ sits on the pointy bit ...
Description
This 20-25 foot high formation has three cracks, a couple bits on the left, & that's about it. The possibility for some short face routes exists. It is south-facing & warm.
The rock is of moderate to good quality, though there is a lot of dirt, pebbles, and general organic matter on the top-out / anchoring area. Watch out for cacti.
There is lots of road noise.
There are no bolts, so prepare to trad or TR with built anchors.
Getting There
Drive 2/10 of a mile past Boulder Falls (~7.8 miles into the canyon). There is a large pullout on the right.
Old mining debris (wooden items & rusted iron rails) are scattered about. The face is also characterized by some red painted shapes and a "G" on the right side (near the walk-up)
Although this route is short, it's a nice crack climb with excellent rock. Footholds on the face to the right are quite sparse, so effective jamming is crucial. The crux is doing exit moves when the crack thins down after the last hand jam. This route is shown in the D'Antonio guidebook, where it is given the very incorrect rating of 5.7+....[more]Browse More Classics in CO
