| Can people who are really strong for 25 feet come and clip bolts? | |
By TravisMelin From La Crosse, WI Mar 22, 2008
| Seth, we have installed halfway anchors to accommodate for the very strong, such as yourself. That way you can treat each route as a two highball boulder problems.... | |
By SteveSchultz Mar 24, 2008
| I'm in. I may need to use Seth's halfway anchors though.
Dave, I'll buy you plenty of drinks as long as I can pilfer more beta on Ice and Dyslexia from you.

| An important reminder to all who plan on coming:
While rockclimbing here is not illegal (or legal for that matter) , we do need to keep a somewhat LOW PROFILE. To do this there is really only one thing that you need to do, and that is to car pool, and DO NOT park at the overlook near the flag. You need to park at the gravel pull out on the left about 50 yrds before you reach the overlook parking. From there walk directly west (toward the river) into the woods where all trails lead to climbing.
Also to help improve the climber image (and overall beauty of the area) it would be much appreciated if anyone who attends would bring a small trash bag, and spend 5 min picking up bottles/printers/other trash that kids seem to enjoy throwing off the top of the bluff. (or any other odd things you find along the trails...)
Lets hope for some killer weather!
By josh wabaunsee Apr 10, 2008
| this pullout is more like 1/4 mile from the overlook parking...
it also happens to be where the bathrooms are
when you drive past the alpine in...there is a small 3 car pullout on the LEFT where the whitch's cauldron area trail is....then you drive past a home with lots of sat dishes...then a pullout on the RIGHT...next is the pullout on the LEFT with bathrooms
is bliss road open yet? or should someone post the detour up irish hill?
By Ben M Apr 10, 2008
| josh you got the pullouts on the wrong sides. After the house with the sat dishes there is a pullout on your RIGHT and then the next pullout (with the bathrooms) is on the LEFT and no bliss is still closed. the easiest way to get up there now is to get to Jackson St. which becomes state Rd. you will take that out of town up a big hill as soon as you get to the top of the hill take a LEFT, you will be turning onto County Rd F, from there take that until you reach the pullout. the overall trip from the stoplight by Kmart should take about 10-15min. there are also signs at the top of the hill
here are the directions from the Kmart on Jcakson St. to the climbs http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=20594515825387>>>>>

| you are correct...i was still orienting myself coming from the ovelook for some reason...foot traffic should also be directed down to the end of goeorges poing....id doubt that the social climbers trails from the parking lot can stay low key with lots of foot traffic and all the spring mud.... | |

| Looks like you all picked an awesome day for this thing. I hear rumblings of police coming to ticket climbers after the bash though. What's the story with that? We were climbing there once and some guy came up and was saying it was illegal to climb there. Of course we ignored him as his blood alcohol level was probably about 0.4 above his IQ but I've been wondering about access there for all of our sake, and specifically what the police were doing there and if it was likely to change anything. | |
By TravisMelin From La Crosse, WI Apr 23, 2008
| It was a super nice day. Perhaps D.G. can give us his commentary on what happened. What I had heard from the person that got the ticket was that the cops were actually looking for a guy from the cities that they had given a verbal warning to the previous day for who knows what. His car was in the lot so they came down looking for him. They ran into Fred and mistook him for this mystery guy. Once the cop got things straight he gave fred a warning, then a ticket after fred asked what he had done illegal. Later the cop tore up the ticket and apologized for the hassling. I doesnt sound like climbing is in jeprody here, but it seems like keeping the area quiet for a week wouldnt be a bad idea. The same trails that the climbers use is also heavily used by pot head high schoolers, and underage drinkers who like to hang out at the edge of the bluff past all the climbing. Any regulation up there is most likely aimed at keeping them from falling of the main face...again. | |

| So was the bash successful? I was going to go but figured the rock was still too wet. | |
