I am new to climbing, mostly I am a backpacker that wants to start mountaineering. Yes I know there are not mountains in Minnesota but a boy can dream and drive west. I want to know if there are any climbing groups, clubs, cults or cabals that I could get involved with to learn a few things (or a lot of things because I know nothing) and meet some new people. So if you know any in the twin city metro area let me know.

PS: A fondness for the consumption of malted beverages is a plus also.

Also, Vertical Endeavors in St. Paul is a great place to meet local climbers during the winter months (there is also a VE gym in Duluth, if you are in that area).

During the summer, head to Taylors Falls, Red Wing, Blue Mounds, or the North Shore (to name a few) to meet people.

You will find ice climbers and alpine climbers mixed in the bunch.
