Pete Arndt on final pitch (ramp) of the Conn Route on Aquarium.

I understand a new Devils Lake guide book will be released.

In your opinion WHO or WHAT should be featured on the COVER?

Be Serious OR NOT!!!

I think that a cartoon style illustration depicting a drunken DLFA clubber, falling off the rock (martini in hand) and landing on, and splattering, a whooping crane would be most elegant.

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only "orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weaner pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.
Beer party on Brinton's Buttress, 1985. There was a full keg lowered into place, some lawn furniture on slings. The numbers kept growing till the keg ran dry. Kurt "Hard Rock" Krueger was the mastermind.

Everything else is second place. This is from Leo's personal stash

(I have no affiliation to the DLFA, it's members, nor officers, I have no recollection of ever climbing either -- though I do recall falling down alot in 11-mile & Turkey)

Like Jason said no top-rope pics. A picture of someone lleading at DL taken from above or the side would be best.If not then a pic of someone drinking upside down @ the south shore pavilion wiil do.

I have a suggestion for the title of the new guide. How about:
The Extreme Extremists Guide to Extreme Devils Lake Extreme Climbs (Extreme Version).

Self-portrait on Broadway, just before reaching the Notch Couloir.

How about the picture of Terry K. leading Brinton's that appears in the Falcon Guide for Minnesota and Wisconsin? Pretty cool pic by Dave Reich. To win the DLFA vote, we could photoshop a beer into his hand--it's even cupped and ready!

I think I might have an old photo of me vomiting in Wheeler's Campground after playing tetherball drunk as hell wearing a headlamp at 2:00 in the a.m. It's truly a classic- would that count?

On a more serious note, I second the no toprope vote, and personally would like to see a nice color photo of Cleo's Needle or something equally iconic.

A large group of boy scouts, all with dogs, throwing cigarette butts and trash everywhere. That should capture the true flavor!

I agree no top rope pic, I did not won't a top rope pic, on the last guide, (aka me) I said it should be the pic of Lorene leading Upper Diagonal,it was Wisconsin Press who picked the pic's for the cover,
the first pic they choose was real bad, (Prospect point pinnacle II) a women on the cover leading a classic, would be nice or Pete Cleveland leading a classic,

I think a photo of Alex doing one of his amazing test peices that the DLFA could never climb, but he has to grow a real big afro and wear pimp clothes from the 70's . Also the Koalo bear has to be belaying him in a dirty white t shirt while trying to look up the dress of a CMC virgin godess.

How about a photo of me, my wearing my Raggedy Ann costume puking my guts out, after doing Yager bombs, in the true DLFA style, by the way this is the way you spell goddess and Koala,

Just to clear things up - The photo of the beer on Brinton's Crack.
Tom K and I did the beer thing twice. I think that is the second time. We lead up to the hanging belay. Some of our guest did rap down from the top - but we lead it to the top both times. We also carried the beer up to the climb both times - unsupported.

Bouldering at Ravenheugh. Simply glorious.

Alistair Donn (climbing) Tim Barnes (spotting?)

Kurt- where's Tom these days. Last I saw him was in Boulder about 20 years ago. He took Dennis Junkins and I up some hideous off-widthy thing in Boulder Canyon. I vowed never to climb an OW again (and have come pretty close to holding true to that vow).

Leo-

Tom was in Fort Collins for quite a number of years. He was doing a bunch of the big cracks in Wyoming. He described 5.12 OW as doing 5 moves to set up for an upwards move. Gave me a Big Bro to get me into trouble. He also travel for the job down to Peru. He was doing a lot of new rock routes - some bolted - and also bring alot of gear down for the locals.
